About Warm Tooltip
Warm Tooltip groups tooltips the way desktop apps do: the first one waits a moment, then while the group is warm its siblings open instantly as you move along the toolbar, so scanning icons is quick.
Warm Tooltip is an overlay component for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Warm Tooltip
- Editor and formatting toolbars.
- Icon-only navigation rails.
- Dashboard action bars.
- Any row of icon buttons.
How it works
A group context tracks whether a tooltip was open recently, with a delay and cooldown you set. Each tooltip is linked with aria-describedby, opens on focus as well as hover, and skips its entrance animation while the group is warm.
It traps and returns focus correctly, closes on Escape, and is announced to screen readers with the right dialog or menu role. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Warm Tooltip
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change delay live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.
- WarmTooltipGroup delay (number, default 500).
- WarmTooltipGroup cooldown (number, default 400).
- WarmTooltip content (ReactNode).
- WarmTooltip children (ReactElement).
Goes well with Warm Tooltip
These overlays pieces share its tokens and motion language, so they sit together on one page without clashing.
- Command Menu: An animated React command palette with fuzzy search, groups and keyboard control
- Hover Card: An animated React hover card that previews links on hover or focus
- Morph Dialog: A React card that morphs into a dialog: artwork and title flow between them
- Notification Stack: iOS-style grouped React notifications that fan out and swipe away
- Dynamic Island: A React Dynamic Island: a pill that morphs size and content between states
