About Tool Result
Tool Result shows a single tool call in an agent's run: a shimmer and live timer while it works, then a check or warning when it finishes. Open it to see the input and output as text or formatted JSON.
Tool Result is an AI interface component for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Tool Result
- Agent and copilot transcripts.
- Function-calling debug views.
- Workflow and automation run logs.
- Developer tools that show API calls.
How it works
The timer counts in tabular figures so it never jitters. JSON is pretty-printed and syntax tinted in the file, the row is a disclosure button with aria-expanded, and the body opens on a height spring.
Streaming and status changes go through live regions, every action is a labelled button that works from the keyboard, and decorative motion stops for people who prefer reduced motion. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Tool Result
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change status, defaultOpen live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.
- name (string).
- status ("running" | "success" | "error", default "success").
- input (unknown).
- output (unknown).
- duration (number): Seconds; a live timer replaces it while running.
- defaultOpen (boolean, default false).
