About Tool Approval
Tool Approval shows the tool an agent wants to call, with its arguments laid out to read, and asks you to allow once, always allow or deny. Risky calls get a warning tint, and the card folds down to the decision once you answer.
Tool Approval is an AI interface component for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Tool Approval
- Agents that write files or run shell commands.
- Payments, emails and other outbound actions.
- Database writes from a copilot.
- Any agent step that needs a person's sign-off.
How it works
Arguments render as a readable key and value list rather than raw JSON. The three choices are buttons with clear labels, the risk level sets the tint and icon, and the collapse to the result is a height spring.
Streaming and status changes go through live regions, every action is a labelled button that works from the keyboard, and decorative motion stops for people who prefer reduced motion. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Tool Approval
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change risk live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.
- tool (string).
- description (string).
- args (Record<string, unknown>).
- risk ("low" | "high", default "low").
