About Glare Hover
Glare Hover sweeps a diagonal band of light across whatever you wrap when the pointer arrives. The band is a translated layer, so nothing underneath repaints.
Glare Hover is an interactive effect for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Glare Hover
- Product cards.
- Buttons and badges.
- Credit card visuals.
- Thumbnails.
How it works
The glare is a gradient that translates across once per hover.
Pointer effects have a keyboard or static equivalent, and nothing that matters depends on hover alone. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Glare Hover
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change angle, size, duration, playOnce live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.
- angle (number, default 135): Direction of the sweep in degrees; 0 moves up, 90 moves right.
- color (string, default "var(--foreground)"): Any CSS colour; softened to a band automatically.
- size (number, default 40): Band width as a percentage of the element.
- duration (number, default 0.8): Seconds for one sweep.
- playOnce (boolean, default false): Sweep once per hover and reset silently instead of sweeping back out.
The example on this page
- Glare Hover: Turn the angle and width, then hover the card.
