About Electric Border
Electric Border runs a live electric arc along a card's edge. The stroke is displaced by fractal noise that is re-rolled a few times a second, over a soft glow.
Electric Border is a display component for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Electric Border
- Gaming and esports cards.
- Highlighted features.
- Hackathon and event pages.
- Bold call-to-action cards.
How it works
It is a stroked rounded rect run through an SVG turbulence and displacement filter. Because it is SVG, it fits any size without measuring, and reduced motion freezes the arc.
Interactive parts are buttons or links with accessible names, decorative layers are hidden from assistive tech, and everything is reachable by keyboard. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Electric Border
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change color, speed, chaos, thickness live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.
- color (string, default "var(--ember)"): Arc colour.
- speed (number, default 1): Jitter rate multiplier.
- chaos (number, default 0.5): How far the arc strays from the edge, 0 to 1.
- thickness (number, default 2): Stroke width in px.
- radius (number, default 16): Corner radius in px.
