About Decay Card
Decay Card shows an image that melts and smears when the pointer or the page moves fast, then settles. It gives editorial and art sites a tactile, analogue feel.
Decay Card is a display component for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Decay Card
- Editorial and magazine sites.
- Music and art portfolios.
- Fashion lookbooks.
- Experimental landing pages.
How it works
An SVG turbulence filter displaces the image in proportion to pointer velocity, with a directional blur for the smear. It relaxes back to sharp when movement stops.
Interactive parts are buttons or links with accessible names, decorative layers are hidden from assistive tech, and everything is reachable by keyboard. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Decay Card
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change strength, width, height live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.

- alt (string, default "").
- strength (number, default 1): 0 to 3. How far the image melts at full speed.
- width (number, default 300).
