About Comet Dial
Comet Dial is a circular control you drag around by angle: ticks light up to the value, and a comet tail streaks behind the glowing head when you move quickly. Arrow keys work too.
Comet Dial is an input component for React 19, styled with Tailwind CSS 4 and animated with Motion. It drops into Next.js, Vite, Remix or Astro through the shadcn CLI as a single file you own.
When to use Comet Dial
- Temperature and brightness controls.
- Timers and durations.
- Audio and synth parameters.
- Smart home dashboards.
How it works
The pointer's angle around the centre sets the value, so you can drag anywhere on the ring. It is a slider role with arrow keys, and the tail length comes from how fast the head is moving.
It is a real form control: it has an accessible name, works with the keyboard alone, shows a visible focus ring and announces its state to screen readers. With prefers-reduced-motion on, it holds still or settles instantly instead of animating.
Customizing Comet Dial
Every prop is documented in the API reference above with its type and default. The ones you will reach for first are listed here.
The Customize panel next to the preview lets you change ticks, size live, and the Code tab updates to match, so the snippet you copy already carries your values.
- value / defaultValue (number, default 40).
- min / max (number, default 0 / 100).
- ticks (number, default 48).
- size (number, default 220).
- label / unit (string).

These inputs pieces share its tokens and motion language, so they sit together on one page without clashing.
